What does your workforce believe is the purpose of a risk assessment?
1. We do them because we’re told to, so we have something to show if needed (CYA).
2. We do them because we believe they help keep us safe.
I often ask drilling teams this question. But the real insight comes at the end of the discussion:
“What have we actually been debating—an idea, or just a piece of paper?”
Almost every time, it comes down to the paper.
That’s the gap.
What’s missing isn’t another form, it’s a clear understanding of the purpose behind the Job Safety Analysis process, and a genuine commitment to it.
When teams understand the why, belief follows. And when belief is there, the process becomes something they use—not something they just complete.
That’s how safe and efficient operations become consistent. If you’re ready to shift from compliance to commitment, let’s connect.
